Why PVDEFEND exists

PVDEFEND exists because many solar installations were never fitted with bird protection. Homeowners often do not realise there is an accessible nesting space beneath the panels until birds are already using it.

We are not another pest-control company. The work is solar-specific: closing the perimeter of an array with materials and fixings that belong on a PV roof, then treating the roof, gutters and system as part of the same investment.

The company is based around Southend-on-Sea, working across Essex, with a structure built to expand through East London, Kent, Hertfordshire and eventually nationwide. Coverage is honest — if we cannot attend, we will say so.

How we talk about risk

Nesting can contribute to debris, blocked drainage, staining, reduced light on the cells and additional electrical risk where dry material sits around cabling. We do not say your roof will leak, or that birds cut output by a fixed percentage. The point is preventative: check the array before a small gap becomes a larger job.

The law we follow

Wild birds, their nests and eggs are protected by UK law under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. PVDEFEND will never disturb an active nest. If eggs or chicks are present, work waits until it is safe and lawful to proceed. We recommend installation between September and February when the risk of encountering an active nest is lowest.
